Since the Apostolic era, the history of our Coptic Church has never been without heroes of faith. Their lives were clearly distinguished, particularly in the early times and especially in the era of persecutuion when hundreds of thousands were martyred for clinging to their God and defending their faith and their church. They did that to the last drop of their blood, without fear of torture and persecution. They were not only shining stars in their times, but to this day they show the road for everyone; "Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who urn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever" (Daniel 12:3). Many lives were changed and many believers were strenghted in their faith after reading the history of the lives of those martyrs and saints, and those believers grow steadily in grace. Thus, the church arranged to read each day a chapter of the book of Synaxarium, which contains the biography of the saints. The church reads the synaxarium after the reading of the Acts of our Holy fathers the apostles so that both readings can be a model, which many would follow.
