Henri Nouwen has a wide and varied audience. His books and articles have influenced readers from a number of religious traditions, and speak with a directness which is rare in spiritual writing. A Roman Catholic priest, he spent most of his time as a teacher in divinity schools founded to serve Protestant churches.
